A Relaxing And Fun Weekend

Filed under: Bands, Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 3:00 pm

This weekend was pretty laid back. Friday the little ones had school canceled again. For like the billionth time this month. Even still a friend of Thing 1’s wanted her to come over and spend the night. When I got home from work we ordered some pizza for dinner. Not long after the pizza got there, Pooh’s dad dropped her off. She’s on break for a week. After eating, I took Pooh and dropped her off to visit a friend at college, and Thing 1 at her friends. Then it was back home.

I played with Thing 2 for a little bit and watched a bunch of TV/DVR/Netflix. Band Mom and I planned on just hanging out at home all night. Pooh ended up catching a ride home from her friends around midnight courtesy of our neighbor, who is a security guard at the college she was visiting. Thing 2 had tried to stay up until Pooh got home, but didn’t quite make it.

After Pooh was home, Band Mom started to get a little itchy to go to the casino. So around 2 in the morning she and I headed out for some gaming. We played for a while. Longer than we realized actually, we ended up getting home after the sun was up…

Saturday, for some reason both Band Mom and I were up pretty early (for what time we actually got to bed that is.) Thing 1 was dropped off a little after 1 in the afternoon. Everyone spent the day just kinda lazing around the house. For dinner we ordered some Chinese. After dinner, I got a shower and got ready to go.

I was heading out to see Keyz’s band Evolution they were opening up for a band called Ardor. Both bands kicked ass! Its been a while since I’ve been out to see some original bands and it was well worth the trip.

While at the bar, I got a text from Band Mom. She was going to head into the casino with our neighbors around midnight and I should meet her there. So after I left the bar, I hit the casino on the way back home. We stayed for a while (not nearly as late as Friday night though) before heading home and to bed.

Sunday I slept way in. The past couple of nights catching up to me. Not that I was missing anything. I did get up in time to get some grub and then get settled in to watch the big USA/Canada hockey game for the gold medal at the Olympics. Dorka stopped by to pick up his mail and stayed for the game as well. It was a good game with the US tying the game with less than 30 seconds in regulation and then Canada winning in OT off of a goal by Sidney Crosby. Mixed emotions on that…Damn US lost. But awesome that the game winner for the gold was from Sid.

After the game Dorka headed out. Eventually everyone was ready for dinner so Pooh and I made a run to Arby’s to pick up some grub. We ate and then hung out til bed time. Monday was on its way and that means back to work for me and back to school for Things 1 & 2…

The Past Couple Of Weeks

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 2:15 pm

Well, I haven’t written here in a couple of weeks. I work all day on a computer. When I get home, I very rarely pull out the computer to do anything. Most of my blogs are posted during some free time at work. Unfortunately (for the blog) or fortunately (I’m busy) depending on how you look at it there hasn’t been much free time at work the past couple of weeks. But today there is a slight opening so I’m going to get this bad boy caught up…

First the last weekend in January…

Friday was a calm stay at home evening for the fam. We just stayed in watched some tube and had a nice relaxing evening at home. Saturday in the afternoon, my folks stopped by on their way home from shopping and picked up Things 1 & 2 for the night. Band Mom ran out and took care of some stuff during the late afternoon/evening. After a quick fend for yourself dinner we headed out for the evening. We picked up Marc, and then our friends Larry and Crystal. We all then headed to the bar to meet up with some other friends. This was a combined b-day celebration for Princesses sister and going away party for Larry and Crystal who are moving to Minnesota at some point in February. We all had fun b s ing, drinking and throwing darts. Well except for the weird dude who plagued Band Mom for what seemed like forever with stories about the hotel at which Band Mom no longer works and couldn’t care less about…

Around 1 we rounded up our three riders and made the rounds to drop them off. Then Band Mom and I headed to the casino for a few hours of playing. While there we met up with Ms. K and Mr. H off and on. After a few hours and Band Mom breaking even and me only losing a couple of bucks we headed home and to bed.

Sunday was spent putting a new flush assembly in the downstairs toilet. The kids came home in the afternoon and most of the day was spent lazing around the house watching the Pens play the game of the week.

The rest of the week was for the most part uneventful. Band Mom and I both hit the casino separately on Thursday to get our 5000 bonus points. But other than that not much happened.

Until Friday night…

That’s when we got an assload of snow. It started snowing a little before I left work. We decided to order pizza for dinner, but rather than have it delivered, I’d go and pick it up. This was around 8. And the roads were already awful. But the new four wheel drive is sweet! So we ate and prepared to hunker down for the night. Around 11, Mr. H asked if I could give him a lift to work since his car wasn’t going to be of much use in the weather and especially by the morning. So I did that. Even with the 4WD we had to dig my truck out to get it going. Once we were on the road it was smooth sailing.

The kids fell asleep around that same time, then BOOM out went the power. Band Mom and I didn’t know what to do with ourselves without TV, internet or phone. We had the cells, but they were draining fast. I plugged mine into a laptop and drained that battery for my phone. Band Mom and Ms. K went out to Band Mom’s truck for a while to charge their phones. Around 2, it was starting to get a little cold in the house. We decided to wake up the girls and bring them downstairs and we were all going to huddle together and sleep on the futon to stay warm. Of course, as soon as we got all set up and the girls were up to the point where they weren’t going to fall asleep for a while, the power came back. We cranked up the furnace to get the house as warm as possible as quickly as possible because we figured the power was going to go out again sooner or later. And it was sooner. After about half an hour out it went again. So we all stayed on the couch and slept for the night. I woke briefly around 5:30 and the power was back on.

When we all finally got moving Saturday morning, it was pretty much done snowing. Our city had already declared a state of emergency. We had about 19 inches of snow. Crazy snow. It was about as tall as my dog. Who loves the snow, but he was having trouble that day. We all got bundled up. Band Mom wanted to get the cars dug out just in case we needed them. So the girls played with a neighbor in the snow for a while, while we shoveled the front steps and dug out and cleaned of the cars. Our neighbors were out doing the same thing. After a couple hours of shoveling (and we don’t have a driveway or sidewalk…I feel bad for those folks) we headed back in to keep warm and laze around for the rest of the day.

Finally around 9PM the plow hit our street for the first time. All it really accomplished was to re-bury all the cars on the street. I went out and helped Mr. H dig his car out since he was going to take it to work that night. It was dark and cold so I didn’t dig our cars out while I was out there.

I should have though. Come Sunday, the mounds had frozen and were a bitch to dig out. Band Mom, Ms. K, Mr. H and I worked together to get all of the cars clear and open up parking for both of our houses. We had originally made plans to take my Mom out for dinner Sunday night with the whole family and Band Mom’s Mom for my Mom’s birthday. We canceled all of those plans since noone really wanted to go anywhere. Eventually, Band Mom and Ms. K headed out together to go grocery shopping. They weren’t the crazies stocking up because the ohmigodthesnowitstheendoftheworld it was just the weekly grocery run. They said though it was worse than Christmas shopping. That’s how long the lines were and how bare the shelves were. But they made it out alive.

We got a call from Things 1 & 2’s school and school was being canceled on Monday. Monday I made it to work and outside of our street and Route 40 in WV, the roads were pretty clear. Monday we found out that school was canceled on Tuesday as well. Now its Tuesday and I’m at work eating my lunch. It has started snowing again. We’re supposed to get another 6 – 12 inches by tomorrow…

So much for global warming!

Weekend Without The Kids

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 1:29 pm

Friday after work I took Things 1 & 2 over to my parents for the weekend. Band Mom and I were going to enjoy some alone time. We decided to go out to a nice dinner so we headed to Bistecca for dinner. In case you missed my anniversary blog, Bistecca is a nice steak house inside the casino. Band Mom again had the Filet Oscar and this time I had a crab stuffed lobster tail. Both were awesome. Band Mom skipped the appetizer this time so she could have room for dessert, but still was too full for dessert much to her dismay.

After we ate we headed down to the casino floor and played for a while. We didn’t have the luckiest time on the floor, but we did have fun. It was a little early for us to be there, but still fun none the less. On the way home, we stopped at Wal Mart to pick up a couple of things, since we figured we weren’t going to be leaving the house much on Saturday.

Saturday, we got to sleep in a bit. Or at least I did. Band Mom got up and started cleaning. I got to sleep until she came to inform me that she ripped the Wii’s sensor bar cord to shreds with the vacuum. Oh well. Now I was up. After a little bit of cleaning by Band Mom we basically lazed around and watched some TV together for the majority of the afternoon. It was pouring rain all day, so we just couldn’t bring ourselves to leave the house to accomplish anything else.

For dinner, we were going to meet Princess and KJ at T.G.I.Fridays. They beat us there and found out that the wait was going to be like 45 minutes. So we all decided to bag that idea and ended up going to Waffle House. We had dinner and chatted for a while. Then we headed to a local bar for a couple of drinks.

After we were at the bar for a little bit, Double D called to see where we were at. We were supposed to all meet him and his wife and a couple of their friends at the casino. More specifically, the bowling alley. We got there and it was insane. There were a ton of people there. They said it would be like 2 hours before we could get a lane. So instead we headed to one of the bars upstairs in the casino where smoking is permitted. We hung out there for a while and then Band Mom had to hit the machines. I managed to stay and chat a little longer, but not long after I also headed out to the gaming floor.

Everyone else ended up leaving after a little while longer and heading to a different bar, but there is not getting Band Mom or I out of the casino that early. We both played for a few hours. To some better luck than the night before. We met our neighbors there for a little bit as well. Once we had had our fill though we finally headed home.

Sunday we got to sleep in a little again. We laid around again watching some TV. We finally got moving around 3:30. We headed out to Pooh’s Dad’s to pick up Band Mom’s Mom’s car. The last time Pooh was home, she got a flat and we didn’t want her driving the car back to our place on a donut since at that time the snow was pretty bad. So we went and got it and I drove it back to town. I parked it at Sears so on Monday Band Mom could go and get a new tire.

Then we stopped and picked up Things 1 & 2. We headed to Wal Mart to get some needed groceries. After that we headed home. Band Mom made a dinner of spinach salad and chicken wings. We ate and watched some DVR. The girls got to stay up later than normal since they didn’t have school on Monday. They finally went to bed around 10:30 and I headed to bed around 11 since I didn’t have Monday off.

Outside of a few little bumps, this was a nice relaxing weekend with Band Mom. We had a good time meeting up with friends and hanging at our favorite hang out.

Hard To Believe Its Been Four Years

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 12:34 pm

Saturday was spent kinda lazing around and cleaning up after Thing 1’s party. Lunch (and dinner) were left over pizza. At night JuJu came over to baby sit so Band Mom and I could go out for a little bit. Gee, where did we go? Duh, the casino. It was a pretty good night.

Sunday, we slept in a little but got up and got ready to go. Sunday was the 4 year anniversary of the passing of Band Mom’s Dad. It doesn’t feel like its been that long, but it has. We all got ready and then headed to pick up Band Mom’s Mom. The 5 of us then headed out to go to the mausoleum. We spent some time there paying our respects.

After the mausoleum we stopped and had some Chinese buffet. Had to have some sweets for dessert to remember Band Mom’s Dad. I remember going to a buffet with him in DC where his first plate was nothing but cakes. I thought Band Mom’s Mom was gonna have a cow. The man had hidden candy all over their apartment. He was like a magician and could make a sweet appear from thin air. He loved having grand kids, because he wouldn’t get yelled at for sharing candy with them. That gave him more sweets.

The cat was a genius to boot. He had a PhD in engineering. He had a couple of patents in his name. Dude even has a theory in text books with his name on it. Fire suppression systems that he designed are still in use in mines all over the world. But best of all for me he raised an awesome daughter!

Add One To The “What Were We Thinking” Column

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 2:07 pm

Wednesday was was Thing 1’s 10th Birthday. So Band Mom agreed to allow her to host a sleep over birthday party. I did not agree. I was not looking forward to 4 10 year old girls taking over our house for 18 hours…To give us a little bit of an ease into the sleep over Band Mom decided to invite some other folks over for a pizza party pre-sleepover. As people started showing up between 6 and 7 I headed out to pick up $100 worth of pizzas.

The pizza party wasn’t too bad as some of our friends were there. There was Thing 1 and her 3 friends. Princess and her 2 boys who are in the same classes as Thing 1 & Thing 2. Double D and Antman stopped by and Ms. K, Mr. H and JuJu also came over. All the kids ate pizza and played on the Wii while the adults hung out and bullshitted for a couple of hours. Then, all the non sleep over guests started heading out and going there own ways for the evening. Thing 2 and JuJu worked it so that Thing 2 could sleep over at Ms. K’s with JuJu for the night so it was soon just Band Mom and I with 4 10 year old girls. They kept to themselves, but 4 was a little too many to be comfortable all night in our new game room. So I opened up the futon in the living room and gave them that room as well. Band Mom and I then headed upstairs to the bedroom around 11.

This just didn’t seem natural. Band Mom and I in bed by 11 on a Friday night. But we didn’t want to impose ourselves on Thing 1’s party. Band Mom fell asleep rather quickly. I was up watching TV and reading until 12:30 or so. I didn’t sleep all that well and I could hear the girls til at least 2:30 when I finally fell fully asleep.

The next morning Band Mom was up around 6:30. And didn’t have anything to do but sit in bed watching TV. I got up around then and let the dog out, but after he came in headed back to bed and was able to sleep for a little longer. Finally around 9:30 Band Mom and I headed downstairs and around 10 started making breakfast for everyone. The girls were still asleep, but the prospect of pancakes and sausage had them all up and moving in short order. Band Mom made a ton of pancakes and sausage and everyone ate their fill, including JuJu and Thing 2 who came back over for breakfast. The girls started getting picked up by 11 and the last girl left around 1.

I have to admit, it wasn’t nearly as painful as I expected. All the girls were pretty good and they weren’t too loud. I think everyone had a good time and Thing 1 definitely did. Wasn’t a huge fan of giving up my TV and DVR for a night, but I guess once every 10 years or so can be tolerated.

Its Been A While

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 2:23 pm

So I haven’t blogged in a few weeks. Let’s play catch up…

Santa came a couple days early for Band Mom and I. He brought Band Mom a new (to her) Hyundai Santa Fe and brought me a new (to me) Ford Escape. Okay, so they weren’t from Santa, they were purchased by us with some help from our bank and the nice folks at Washington Ford.

How did that all come about. Well my car finally died. I blew a head gasket. I took it to the mechanic and he said he could have fixed it, but I’d be spending more than the car was worth at this point. So I grudgingly started looking around online for cars. Band Mom has not been happy with her minivan for a while so she started looking as well. She was looking for an SUV and I was looking at probably getting another Civic. Of course the Saturday we wanted to go look and drive stuff, we got pounded with snow. So we ended up just going to the local Honda dealer to check some stuff out. While there I explored the lease deals on a new Civic we told the guy there about what my credit score was (not bad but not excellent either) and he ran some numbers. We liked the numbers. He was going to call on the following Monday to let us know the official numbers after running the app through Honda. I was geeked. I’d never owned a brandy new car before. Well, Monday came and oh…guess what…I didn’t qualify for the preferred credit rate and the new rate was just stupid. A new loan would have been a lower monthly. Now we felt like we were bait and switched, so there was no way we were going back to that dealership again…ever.

Band Mom found an SUV she wanted to look at at the Ford dealership and there were a few Civics that I liked at dealerships around the area. So after work on Monday, we went to the dealership and test drove the SUV Band Mom was looking at. She loved it. And I kinda liked it too, and wondered why I wasn’t looking at trucks as well. The salesman worked numbers with us and got the car Band Mom liked down to what she was willing to pay, so we liked him and I then looked at some cars. I loved the truck so he then worked those numbers until they were where we wanted them. A total win-win. We get 2 new cars and he gets 2 sales off the lot in under 2 hours. We did all the stuff and then came back on Tuesday night and picked up our new cars!

Then it was time for Christmas. Christmas was good this year around our house. Band Mom decided to host Christmas dinner this year. We had all three girls, Pooh’s boyfriend, Band Mom’s Mom, my folks and my sister. Everyone had a good time and Band Mom and Pooh made a great dinner. I think everybody got what they wanted.

The Saturday after Christmas, Band Mom and I hit the casino. Not a great trip for our final one of 2009. Then I got up early the next day. Why you ask? Well I was heading out to go to the Steelers game with some friends. That was pretty cool. First I haven’t been to Heinz Field before. Second, they actually won. Third, the win was over the Ravens. So that was pretty cool.

The week was spent hanging around the house playing with the girls and watching tv. I try to always take the week between Christmas and New Year’s off to hang with the family. Then Band Mom decided to host a little New Year’s gathering. So some people came out for that. That was fun. After we got everybody gone from the house after the party, Band Mom and I made our first trip of 2010 to the casino. This was a pretty darned good trip. A very nice start to the New Year, I must say.

The following Saturday was another late night trip to the casino. Another pretty good trip. Hopefully 2010 stays like this! Then Back to work on Monday. Kids back to school on Tuesday.

Tuesday night big dinner out for Thing 1’s 10th birthday (which is on Wednesday). Wednesday, Band Mom’s taking Pooh back to school. And its Thing 1’s 10th birthday. Hard to believe, double digits already. Wow! Coming up this weekend…10 year olds and a sleep over party…gee I can’t wait.

Getting Things Finished Up

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 2:52 pm

Sunday was the day to wrap up everything else that we had going on this weekend. Band Mom and I got up around noon and got ready to go. Then we headed out and picked up her mom. The kids were going shopping with my folks again today for a few hours. Band Mom’s Mom was getting a pedicure and Band Mom had to get some groceries and what not at Wal Mart. While there I also picked up a cable splitter and some coax. We finished our shopping at about the same time that Band Mom’s Mom was finished with her appointment. After we left we headed to CVS to pick up a prescription for Band Mom’s Mom. Then we took her mom home. Then we headed home.

Once home, I started finishing up the “game room”. I moved the Wii from the living room into the game room. I couldn’t split the cable since Band Mom was on the internet. Since she was on, we finished our Christmas shopping for Things 1 & 2 by ordering some stuff online. Then I couldn’t split the cable because she was on the phone.

A little before dinner time, Things 1 & 2 called and were ready to get picked up. So I went and got them, while Band Mom started prepping for dinner. When we got back, Band Mom was starting to cook and I finally got to split the cable and get TV on the new TV. I got that all set up just in time for dinner. So Thing 2 decided she was going to eat her dinner in the new game room watching Cartoon Network.

After dinner I got caught up on some DVR. After the kids went to bed, I moved into the game room and played on the Wii while Band Mom watched TV in the living room. I could get to like this game room thing. After getting all the mess from everything cleaned up (all the boxes and whatnot) I took all the trash to the curb before heading to bed.

Getting The Shopping Done

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 2:37 pm

Saturday, Things 1 & 2 were up first. I was up next. I had some breakfast then for some unknown reason got motivated. I took care of a few things around the house that needed done. This was way out of character for me on a Saturday morning. But it got done. The morning was spent just kinda getting little things done while Things 1 & 2 were playing. Band Mom finally got up and got her day started. Then around 1 I took Things 1 & 2 to my parents house so Band Mom and I could do our Christmas shopping.

On the way back from dropping off the kids, I stopped at Wal Mart and picked up a Gazelle that Band Mom had ordered and had shipped to the store. When I got back, it was obvious that we weren’t heading anywhere soon. So I settled in and watched Blade Runner on Netflix while I assembled the Gazelle. I got that done and then Band Mom and I laid around for a while.

We finally got moving and got ourselves dressed and ready to go. We did a little shopping online before heading to the old brick and mortar. With Things 1 & 2’s wish lists in hand we headed to Target. We knew a few of the items were there from our trip yesterday. We ended up getting almost everything we needed there. One stop shopping. We still needed some stocking stuffers and had to order a few more things online, but we pretty much finished our Christmas shopping 2 weeks before the big day.

We then headed to Texas Roadhouse for some dinner. After we ate it was off to the casino. We spent a few hours there and walked out even. If we’d have left earlier in the trip, we probably would have been up, but what fun would that have been? We finally headed home and went to bed.

Getting Ready For The Holidays

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 12:34 pm

Friday, Band Mom wanted to shop for a new Christmas tree. With the new configuration of the living room, Band Mom wanted to get a skinny tree. Our existing tree is your standard artificial tree with a wide bottom and we didn’t think it would fit in the room correctly anymore. So off we went. Our first stop was Target. We didn’t really like any of the trees there. We used the time though to wander around and get some ideas from Things 1 & 2 what they wanted for Christmas.

Next stop was Lowe’s. No luck there either. Then off to Pool City. They had one that Band Mom almost got. It was a pre-lit tree. All the lights were white. Band Mom woulda been okay with the pre-lit, but wasn’t sold on the white lights. We’re more a multi color house. So we passed again.

By this time everyone was getting hungry so we asked what the kids wanted for dinner. Thing 1 suggested Waffle House. She wanted some steak & eggs. So we headed there and had some dinner. After dinner, we headed home, with no new tree. When we got home, Band Mom laid down for a little bit, while I got our old tree and the lights and what not out of the basement. When Band Mom rose a little while later, we put the tree together. While Band Mom was putting lights on the tree, I helped Thing 2 create a wish list on Amazon.

After Band Mom got the lights up, the girls started hanging ornaments on the tree. Somehow, I got wrangled into this activity as well. I usually avoid this and let the kids do all the work (or have all the fun…) But we got the tree all finished. By this time the girls were starting to lose steam. Thing 2 layed down on the couch in the new room and started watching a movie. She quickly fell asleep. Thing 1 laid on the couch with me watching TV. She also quickly fell asleep. Band Mom and I didn’t make it much longer and soon headed to bed ourselves content that we were now one step closer to being ready for Christmas.

I Must Be Scary

Filed under: Family 'N Friends — tonedef @ 1:08 pm

Monday after work I had to stop at Best Buy to pick up a new laptop which is going to be Pooh’s Christmas present. Don’t worry, I’m not giving away any secrets, she already knows its coming. Anyway I go to the store and grab the one that Band Mom and I had discussed earlier in the day. She had called the store earlier to make sure it was physically in stock and was the same price as the online price. If not she was going to order it from the web site and hope it got here in time. But they said yes to both questions, so I headed out to get it.

I then wander around a bit to look at some other potential gifts for other family members. I did pick up one small item for Band Mom. Anyway, I take my purchases and head to the checkout. Here’s where the fun starts. I can’t purchase the computer at the normal checkout, I have to go to the Dork Patrol (or whatever its called) desk to purchase a computer. Now I’m annoyed…there were 3 normal cashiers and no one in line. There was one Dork Patrol guy and he was waiting on someone. So now I have to wait. Not a major deal, but a bit annoying.

After a few minutes I finally get up to the desk and the Dork asks me do I know that this machine has been inspected by the Dork Patrol for any hardware problems, and that they have downloaded all of the latest driver updates, and Windows updates and tweaked the registry to make the machine run faster? No I didn’t. Oh and did I know that that would be an additional $30 for that service that I neither asked for nor wanted? No I definitely didn’t! So before I explode on this cat, I politely ask if there are any machines in the store that the Dork Patrol doesn’t do this to. He says yes, I should go back and check for a box that doesn’t have the special sticker on it.

Well, what do you know the machine I want to get there are no machines that haven’t been fucked with by the Dork Patrol. Now, I’m starting to get pissed. I want the machine at the advertised price, that Band Mom specifically called to double check the price of. So I stand in the section and keep an eye out for an employee (preferably a manager) so I can find out if there are any more in the back or hidden somewhere for a customer that actually doesn’t want some tech school drop out fucking up before purchase. A nice employee finally wanders over to see what I need. His mistake? I have now been stewing for 15 minutes and I’m about to ’splode.

I first ask if there are any untouched machines for purchase. When the answer is not on that model at this time, I lose it and start flippin’ on the poor guy. I’m ranting about “bait-n-switch” and the BBB and just the general lack of professionalism of the store itself. The employee is trying to get a word in, but I’m on a roll now and he doesn’t have much of a chance. When I finally pause to take a breath, he sheepishly tells me that I have misunderstood something he said and that since there are no un-fucked with machines, he will gladly give me on at the original price without the $30 Dork Patrol upcharge. I instantly lose all heat and apologize for berating this nice helpful lowly employee. Rather than send me to a Dork Patrol rep, which would probably have led to me flipping out again, he offers to ring up my purchase so there are no more misunderstandings. I thank him and we head to the Dork Patrol’s cash register.

He rings up my laptop and my other item. I pay, including the use of a $20 gift card I had in my wallet from last year’s company Secret Santa. He hands me my receipt and my two items (unbagged) and says thank you. I thank him for his help and head for the door. Upon exiting, I’m asked by the door watching employee to see my receipt to confirm my purchase. He looks at the receipt and the 2 items I’m holding, thanks me and sends me on my way.

On the way home, since I’m already out shopping, I made another stop at Sam’s Club. I picked up a new TV for our new office/game room/bedroom thing we have been working on all weekend. And a gift for another family member. Then, finally I head home.

Now, here’s where the title comes into play. Once home, I look at the receipt from Best Buy to make sure Band Mom won’t see what I’ve purchased for her. I notice that the only thing on the receipt is my laptop. Not the other gift. Now this wasn’t some special receipt that only had the laptop. It showed the laptop, the use of the gift card, my credit card for the balance. Just not the second item. So obviously my scene in the store scared the employees bad enough that at check out the poor soul who caught the brunt of my anger just gave me the second item free. And then the person at the door who validated my receipt to what I was carrying out of the store didn’t want me to go off again so bad that he just agreed with the cashier and figured I had earned the free gift. Its amazing what no hair cut and being to lazy to shave for almost a month can gain you…
