Are You Serious?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Friday night I got together with Bill, Scott and Chris and we practiced for the third time. Again things were better this practice than last. That’s a good sign. We are coming together as a group and things are moving forward. We practiced from about 7 to 10:30.

After that I headed back into town and met up with Band Mom and some friends who were at a karaoke night. They were scouting for entrants in this years Washington Idol contest that’s going to be held at the Arts & Heritage festival next month. This was the most painful event I’ve ever seen. I understand drunk people having fun at karaoke. I really do. Its even fun to sing songs that you know you shouldn’t sing just for a laugh. But some of these people were really giving it their all thinking they owned a song, when in reality the song owned them.

I feel sorry for the committee that is going to 2 karaoke nights a week at different bars around the area looking for contestants for the competition. How they can sit through 3 to 4 hours of that pain to find the 1 or 2 capable singers is beyond me. Granted there were a couple of truly good singers but the ratio of good to completely painful was like 1:1000000000. Some of these people really think they have a shot at the $1000 prize in the competition. How does no one ever tell these people that they shouldn’t sing in public.

The worst part of this particular event was that it was at a private club. So to not get the member who got us in in any kind of trouble, I had to hold my laughter and comments to myself. That was tough. To pretend to enjoy each singer and clap after each song. You try to smile as someone drags their fingernails across a chalk board and claim it is art!

Second Practice

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Friday night I got together with Bill, Scott and Chris again. It was obvious that everyone had practiced a bit. There was definite improvement over the previous practice. We went over the same songs, but this time they actually sounded more like they were supposed to. After a few hours we called it an evening and everyone headed on their way.

When I got home I went straight to bed since I was scheduled to get up and out of the house by 7:15 on Saturday morning.

No Games Again/We’re Jammin’

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Saturday morning. Rain. Thunder and lightning. Tornado watches. Yet no call from any coaches. So I all Thing 1′s coach to see what’s what. Oh yeah the games are canceled. Well thanks for the call! Jack Ass! So I let the dogs out. Get the kids some breakfast. Then I head back upstairs. Next thing I know its 11:30. Oh well…

Band Mom heads out around 2 to check on her mom and take Pooh to work. I spend the majority of the afternoon working on some client work. Band Mom grills up some steak and burgers for dinner.

After dinner Scooter picks me up. We head to the park ‘n ride to meet up with a buddy of mine from work. Then the 3 of us head to Canonsburg and Bill’s house for a little jammin. We tool around for a couple of hours and things go okay. There is much work to be done if we ever want to go out in front of people, but it was a nice 1st get together. Everyone got along and the songs weren’t bad for a first run through.

After practice Scooter dropped me at home. Of course Band Mom wanted to play some SingStar. So we played some Amped since we hadn’t even gone through all of the songs yet. We did just about all of them and then played a couple of 90s songs before heading to bed.
