More Motion Gaming

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Monday evening…Not a lot going on. Things 1 & 2 wanted more motion based games. So I went to the PlayStation Store and bought High Velocity Bowling. While it downloaded Band Mom made some home made pot stickers for dinner. After dinner, Things 1 & 2 and I gave the game a shot. It was pretty cool. You actually make the bowling motion to bowl. Sony needs to take advantage of this and make some more Wii like games. Mainly so I don’t have to buy a Wii.

Lazy Sunday

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Sunday there was nothing major on the plans. Band Mom had to go to the hotel for a bit in the afternoon, but that was it. Everyone was up kinda early since we all conked out early yesterday.

While Band Mom was out guess what I did…That’s right. I played video games. Sunday’s distraction of choice was pinball. And some demos and poker of course.

When Band Mom got home she did burgers on the grill. After dinner I downloaded a full game for a change…Go! Sports Ski. It was only like $3 and is a game that only uses the SixAxis controller motion sensor for game play. Everyone tried that and it was pretty cool. (I’m glad it didn’t cost any more as there aren’t alot of options or courses and what not.)

I headed to bed while Band Mom finally started on one of her birthday presents…Conan

River Sweep…Or Sleep

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Saturday morning Band Mom had volunteered the family to be involved in some clean up the river thing. Oh well. Bad part: Start time is 8AM. So I set my alarm and get up the same time I do (if not actually earlier) for work. I get Band Mom and the girls moving. I’m not moving too well. Its too damn early on a Saturday for me. Band Mom lets me opt out. YEAH! She and the girls and the neighbors head out around 7:15 to hit McDonald’s on the way in.

Me, I stay home. Unfortunately, I’m awake now and not getting back to sleep. So I shower. Then figure I’ll get the dishes done. And sweep the floors. And do some other random cleaning. Enough work for me. Band Mom and the girls get home as I’m finishing up my work for the day.

Time to play on the video games. I rock some poker and some demos while the girls play and Band Mom takes a little nap.

In the late afternoon we head out and pick up Band Mom’s Mom and go to Walmart to do some grocery shopping. After shopping we take Band Mom’s Mom home and then head home. We unload groceries and then I head out to get a refill on our grill tank. Band Mom cooks up some foot long dogs and sloppy joe for dinner.

After dinner Band Mom heads up to the hotel for a little bit. I on the other hand rock more poker. The kids both start petering out between 9 and 10. Its been a long day. I’m about to fall asleep around midnight and Band Mom rolls in and we call it a night.

Second Practice

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Friday night I got together with Bill, Scott and Chris again. It was obvious that everyone had practiced a bit. There was definite improvement over the previous practice. We went over the same songs, but this time they actually sounded more like they were supposed to. After a few hours we called it an evening and everyone headed on their way.

When I got home I went straight to bed since I was scheduled to get up and out of the house by 7:15 on Saturday morning.

Firefox 3 is here!

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Yesterday at work I had a couple of browser windows open and my computer was running like ass. So I brought up the task manager and found that Firefox was eating a gig and a half of memory and beating the hell out of my dual core processor. I remembered that Firefox 3 had come out a few days ago so decided now was the time to upgrade.

So I downloaded and installed the new version and WOW! There was a noticeable speed increase when loading a page and the memory (with the same pages open) seems to be much better and not leaking like a bad radiator.

Now this is just anecdotal evidence. I didn’t go and run any benchmark tests to prove it. But if you use Firefox and haven’t upgraded to version 3 yet, I would definitely recommend it.

Happy Father’s Day

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Sunday was Father’s Day. Obviously after last night’s gaming I slept in to about 11. Band Mom made us breakfast though. Steak & Eggs! Mmmmmmm.

After breakfast I got a shower and then played on the PS3 again. We all kicked around waiting for Pooh to get home around 4. After she got home we met my folks at the miniature golf course for our annual Father’s Day mini golf outing. After golfing (which I won by the way), Thing 2 wanted to take Grandpap to Waffle House for Father’s Day. So we did dinner there. Then we went to Bruster’s for some ice cream. Then it was home.

I ended the night playing more poker before heading to bed.

Shopping And Gaming

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Saturday Band Mom and I both slept in. When I got up, I made Things 1 & 2 some eggs for breakfast. Then everyone started getting ready for the day. Pooh had to go to work in the early afternoon. We sat around most of the day. Some cleaning got done. Eventually we headed out to the store. Our first stop was Sam’s Club. Band Mom needed some new contacts and I needed to find something for my dad for Father’s Day. Then we hit Target. Then we stopped at Red Robin for some dinner.

After dinner we headed home. As part of my Father’s Day present, Band Mom said I could subscribe to Qore – A new feature on the PlayStation Network. Its an “interactive magazine”. Videos, Demos, Art work, and more. It looked cool, so I wanted to get it. It took a while to download, so while I was waiting I looked around the PlayStation store and ended up seeing some demos that I wanted to try.

So I spent the night checking out Qore, and playing the demos for FIFA 08 and GRID. Both games that looked interesting, but I wanted to see if I should put them on my birthday list…Which I am. Late night the kids were in bed and Band Mom gives me an early Father’s Day present. She had picked me up, World Series Of Poker 2008: Battle For The Bracelets. There went any thought of sleep tonight. I ended up playing off line and on line til about 4 before heading to bed.

Holy Crap Its Dark

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Friday night Band Mom had a meeting. I got home after work and the kids had gone to the ice cream shop/restaurant at the end of our block. They ended up eating dinner there, so all I had to worry about was myself. After I ate, Trav picked me up and we went up to Bradford’s to meet up with Band Mom and her friends. Scooter then met us up their. There was a new act there this week, that we all thought we would check out.

While we were there a storm rolled through town. A nice bigun. Downtown lost power. Luckily, the hotel has some big ol’ generators as back up. Band Mom touched base with Pooh and found out that our house was blacked out as well. The kids were fine, so Band Mom and I stayed for the entire show.

Around 1:30 we headed home. The lights in town were back on. But about halfway home everything was black. You don’t realize how many lights there are somewhere until they are all out. It was like driving on some scary road in a B horror movie. We got home and obviously the power was still out. The kids were all camped out on the fold out in living room since that was the coolest place to be.

Band Mom and I headed up stairs with two little battery powered fans. It was hot and dark. We fell asleep eventually though. A little after 3 the window fan and lights kicked on and about scared the bejeezus outta me. We turned out the lights both up and downstairs and headed back to sleep…

Founder Of Weather Channel VS Man Made Global Warming

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Okay. If you know me or have read previous posts on this issue, you know that I don’t buy into the man made global warming hype. Even if you don’t agree with me, especially if you don’t agree with me, check out the item linked below. It is the text of a speech given by John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel, to the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. I have seen a few articles and statements by him in the past. He has some compelling arguments.

Sunday Shopping

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Sunday morning I got up earlier than yesterday and headed out to get some McDonald’s for breakfast. After a little bit I got Things 1 & 2 ready and took them over to my parents. They were taking the kids to the pool for the day.

Pooh’s boyfriend was dropped off in the early afternoon and we soon all headed out shopping. Our first stop was Target. Band Mom needed some summer clothes and Pooh just likes to shop I think. After Band Mom got what she needed, we ended up looking at the grills. There was one that was on sale and we ended up getting it. Its a nice 4 burner with side burner and 2 front drawers.

After that we headed to the mall. Band Mom shopped for more clothes at Dots and Macy’s. I hit GameStop. No luck, there. I was looking for something cool, but used and cheap for the PS3. Oh well.

After the mall we headed home. Pooh and her boyfriend played some SingStar while I put the grill together. Band Mom headed out to Wal Mart to get some groceries. When Band Mom got back she took Pooh and her boyfriend to youth group. My folks dropped the kids off. Then Band Mom did some burgers and dogs on the new grill for dinner.
