Practice And A Night Out

Friday afternoon Band Mom had a meeting. So Pooh was going to be cooking dinner this evening. I was in a pissy mood for some unknown reason, so I went and laid down for a little bit while Pooh was supposed to be getting dinner ready. She woke me up to help her light the grill. She was going to be grilling pork loins for dinner and making instant mashed potatoes. The pork wasn’t bad, a little crispy on the outside and a bit salty, but overall not awful. The potatoes on the other hand… How can you really mess up instant mashed potatoes. I took one bite and all of the moisture in my body was instantly removed.

After dinner I headed over to Rock’s for practice. I was the first to arrive and was still in a kind of crappy mood. Rock worked a little to try to bring me out of it. Scott was next to show. The three of us hung out for a while waiting for Trav. Trav had to wait for Shell to get home from work before he could leave for practice.

Trav finally got there around 9 and we got things going. We ran through the songs we’ve been working on in record time. We then listened to the playback (all of it). This is something that we haven’t done except for a few songs here and there to see where we were having problems. It actually sounded pretty good. A few minor problems with some changes in songs, some bass lines that aren’t quite there, some vocals that need tweeking, but nothing major.

As we were listening to the playback I got a call from Band Mom. She stayed after her meeting and was at Bradord’s Lounge at the George Washington Hotel and said I should stop by. So after we finished the playback, I headed up.

It turns out Tom Terling was playing and I ran into some other folks I knew while we were there. Band Mom and I haven’t been out together without the kids in a while so it was kinda nice to get a night out with her. We stayed till Tom finished and then headed home…
